What age group is this program specifically designed for?
Youth ages 13-18, specifically for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ identified youth
What is a community doula? Will my youth be certified at the end of this program?
A community doula is a person who provides non-medical emotional support, information sharing, and advocacy within their community. No certification will be obtained from this program; however, with their certificate of completion from the Youth Doula Program, they will be able to enroll in any Birth Collaborative Doula Training within one year of their 18th birthday.
Will food be provided?
Yes, lunch and snacks will be provided. Dietary preferences will be considered, and allergies will be accommodated.
What topics will be covered during the 8 weeks?
Topics will include information such as: building trust, self-awareness, healthy relationships, communication, body autonomy, reproductive awareness, community care, and more.
Are caregivers involved?
Caregivers are encouraged to provide emotional and logistical support for their youth throughout programming, but caregivers will not be present during workshops. We have intentionally built learning experiences for our youth participants to encourage collaborative learning opportunities with their peers and facilitators.
What is the attendance policy?
Consistent attendance is important because each session builds on the previous one and helps create trust within the group. Participants are to attend at least 7 out of the 8 weeks of the program. If more than one session is missed, continued participation may need to be reviewed to ensure the youth and group's experience remains consistent and cohesive. Participants must be present during the first week to continue.
Caregivers are encouraged to communicate in advance if a participant needs to miss a session.
